A Classic Black Tie Wedding at The Carrick House in Lexington, Kentucky

Kathryn and Hunter’s wedding day was one of those days that felt elegant from the very beginning, but still so full of ease, joy, and personality. Their classic black tie celebration at The Carrick House in Lexington was timeless in every way, from the soft dusty blue bridesmaid dresses and black tuxes to the white florals, long veil, and emotional moments tucked into every part of the day.

The day started at The Carrick House, which is such a beautiful Lexington wedding venue for couples who want something classic, historic, and elevated all in one place. Located in Lexington’s historic Third Street corridor, The Carrick House blends a 19th century Southern mansion with a refined event space, giving couples the best of both worlds: charming historic character and a polished reception setting. The mansion itself has so many beautiful spots for getting ready photos, portraits, and those quiet in-between moments before the day fully begins.

Kathryn got ready surrounded by her girls, and the whole morning had such a calm and happy feeling. She wore an elegant, classic wedding dress paired with a long veil that photographed so beautifully. There is just something about a long veil on a wedding day that feels so timeless, especially with the historic feel of The Carrick House as the backdrop.

One of my favorite things about Kathryn was how she handled the day. Every wedding day has little roadblocks or unexpected moments, but Kathryn truly just laughed them off and kept enjoying every second. That kind of energy changes the whole feel of a wedding day. Instead of stress taking over, there was so much laughter, happy tears, and excitement from the beginning all the way through the end of the night.

After getting ready, everyone headed to Historic St. Paul Catholic Church in downtown Lexington for their ceremony. St. Paul is such a stunning and meaningful church, with Gothic Revival architecture and a history dating back to the 1800s. The church was built in 1865 and dedicated in 1868, and it has been a downtown Lexington landmark for more than 150 years. The tall ceilings, traditional architecture, and beautiful aisle made their ceremony feel incredibly classic. Kathryn and Hunter’s ceremony was filled with so many sweet moments. There were smiles, tears, and that quiet joy that comes with watching two people step into such a meaningful part of their story together.

After the ceremony, we returned to The Carrick House for portraits and their reception. The soft dusty blue bridesmaid dresses paired so beautifully with the classic white florals, and the guys looked sharp in black. It was the perfect black tie wedding palette: clean, timeless, and romantic without feeling overdone.

The reception space at The Carrick House was such a beautiful setting for the rest of the evening. The venue’s Grand Ballroom can host larger celebrations while still keeping that polished, elegant feel, which makes it such a strong choice for Lexington couples planning a classic wedding day. With its mix of historic charm, refined interiors, and functional event space, The Carrick House gave Kathryn and Hunter’s day such a seamless flow from getting ready to the final dances.

Their reception was full of the best kind of energy. Parent dances brought more happy tears, the dance floor brought so much fun, and Kathryn and Hunter spent the whole night surrounded by people who were so clearly thrilled to celebrate them. The entire day felt calm, joyful, and genuinely fun, which is exactly the kind of wedding day every couple hopes for.

Kathryn and Hunter, your wedding at The Carrick House was such a beautiful reflection of the two of you. Classic, emotional, relaxed, and so full of love. It was such an honor to photograph your day and preserve all of these sweet, joy-filled moments for you.
